The winemaker Zlatan Plenković and his family business Zlatan otok doo are considered one of the pioneers of the new Croatian winemaking scene. He is considered the most important winemaker in the Dalmatia region. He has shaped it like no other. Zlatan Plavac Barrique is made from selected grapes of the Plavac mali variety. The vineyards in the southern part of the island of Hvar are located in an area where there is no industry. The yield per vine is just 0.5 kg. The vines are cared for by hand, and no artificial fertilizers or synthetic protective agents are used. The wine matures in the cellar at 12 °C, 70 meters below the ground surface. The maturation process takes place first for one to one and a half years in old and new oak barrels (barriques) and then for at least 6 months in the bottle. This red wine is rich in structure, with a slightly animal note, with aromas of plums, sour cherries and chocolate. It has a distinct southern character. The wine has been awarded gold and silver medals several times, and has also been named champion several times.
