Sauvignon Blanc is a noble white wine variety that probably originates from the Loire Valley in France and is a cross between Traminer and Chenin Blanc. It is often confused with the Tocai Friulano grape variety, which was previously incorrectly marketed as Sauvignon Blanc in Chile.

There are various mutations of this grape variety, including Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Noir. With a worldwide cultivation area of over 111,000 hectares (as of 2010), it is one of the 20 most widely cultivated grape varieties, the second most important white quality variety after Chardonnay.

Sauvignon Blanc wines are known for fresh aromas of currants and gooseberries, as well as “green” notes such as freshly mown grass. They are characterized by their piquant aromas and a pronounced acid structure, often accompanied by a mineral tone.
